a shenandoah sun sets

when i face the sun's setting face
while sitting up a mountain's side,
and watch as wispy clouds
blush and redden from the rays,
the furrows in my brow
dug deep by worries of past days
vanish like a field unploughed.

and as my back is cooled
by a deep forest breeze
cleansing down the mountain,
my sad, seared soul
is once again bathed,
refreshed, alive.
